BEAUTY ADVENT 2017 // DAY #1: The decadent, kiss me now mouthwash
Welcome! I am kicking off my Beauty Advent Calendar this year with a product only recently introduced to me by a friend and client (thank you Tara!). It is one that will suit both the men and the women in your life, looks fantastic when gracing any bathroom shelf and comes in some of the best packaging I have seen.
I have known about and used several of Aesop‘s products for nearly ten years but had no idea they did a mouthwash (who knew!) so when my friend remarked she had bought some for her fiancée and that he was subsequently completely addicted, I simply had to try it. Several weeks later, when I finally had a chance to smell the mouthwash (divine) and hold the reassuringly heavy, apothecary style bottle in my hands (feels way more expensive than it is), it was a no brainer.
It comes with a cute little measuring beaker which, like the bottle, is made from brown glass. Its biggest selling point (apart from the gorgeous packaging) is that it is an alcohol-free formula, which the majority of mouthwashes (certainly the cheaper ones), are not. As well as successfully neutralising unwanted oral odours (*sniggers*), it also has the ability to maintain the natural PH of the mouth (I know this to be a good thing when it comes to skin so it makes sense for it to be good for the mouth to be balanced also).
There are times in our life when swirling around a high performing or good quality mouthwash, prior to an important day, date or meeting, can be the equivalent of putting on a pair of heels, a trusty red lip or, if you are a gent reading this, a pair of beautifully kept Italian brogues.
In terms of how best to use this particular mouthwash I would like to borrow here from Selfridges’ instructions as they are particularly pleasing:
“To protect olfactory contentment of those in close proximity, swig generously and gargle prior to all public appearances.”
‘Olfactory contentment’. I encourage you to say it out loud. It really is rather rewarding.
How much is it:
£15.00 for 500ml.
Where can I buy it:
Selfridges, Liberty, Space NK etc, plus a tonne of places online like Mr Porter.
Who is it for:
Anyone. Male or female. I suspect the over 30s will appreciate it more. Anyone who has an aversion towards or fear of dentists may find the clove a bit too transportive. I have had horrendous dental appointments in my time and personally do not find the clove taste to be a deal breaker.
What not to say when gifting it:
“Your breath usually smells like something died inside your mouth so Merry Christmas” 🙂
What to say instead:
“I wanted to get you something you would never buy yourself. This is not a hint!” *laughs and checks recipient’s face for signs of relief*
So that is my present reveal for Day #1. What did you think? Tune in tomorrow for Day #2!
A bit more about my Advent Cal:
My advent-themed calendar is designed to give you, lovely reader, some ideas for presents this gifting season. The list is based on my Top 25 Beauty Buys of recent years. Of the 25 products which made the cut, some I have used for the first time this year and others I have been using for several years. The selection criteria for each product included:
1. It is a product I have repurchased or know I will definitely repurchase at some point
2. It is an item I believe will genuinely make an awesome gift for someone this Christmas
This series is not sponsored in any way and you should know that, like many makeup artists, I am one of the fussiest people I know when it comes to selecting and using beauty products. They have to blow me away. Hope you enjoy!
