Executive Grooming and Makeovers

No more pan stick

It used to be the case that the thicker the makeup the more flawless a person looked on camera. But since the invention of HD the need for heavy makeup has vanished and more and more techniques are being deployed by makeup artists to ensure their clients look as natural as possible in front of the camera.

I’ve spent the past 6 years specialising in this kind of makeup. The kind which isn’t immediately obvious, which doesn’t feel heavy but which ensures an even skin tone and a healthy appearance.

I work with makeup favoured by backstage makeup artists for its sheer but buildable properties. Skin-like concealers which blend into nothing and cream formulations that give the appearance of an even skin tone, free of any redness or unnatural shine.

Executives on film set
Are you sitting comfortably?

In my previous career I spent more than 10 years working as a client services manager for a number of top advertising agencies where a huge part of my job was to ensure my clients felt comfortable. Knowing how to read a person’s body language and the ability to contextualise a situation by having an understanding and an appreciation for what’s going on in the background has helped me build terrific rapport with my clients over the years. This is particularly important when working with Senior Executives for whom having makeup applied before appearing in front of a camera is still a fairly modern concept.

How long does it take?

When doing male grooming I endeavour to have my clients in and out of the makeup chair in less than 15 minutes. This is usually in a private room and the opportunity to ‘sit down for 5 minutes’ is usually warmly welcomed!

With female clients, makeup application and a light hair spruce will take between 35 and 45 minutes (as a rough guide). Again, this very much depends on the individual, the occasion for being photographed or filmed and the industry in which my client is working.

Having this kind of HD-ready makeup applied can also come in handy when it comes to presentations as people are invariably photographed or filmed as they speak. Knowing your hair and makeup are both appropriate for the occasion and that you’re striking the right balance with your look can not only boost a person’s confidence prior to taking to the stage but can also help to convey a more considered personal brand to those watching.
